Monica
Dodd Calhoun has over twenty years of
experience working on employee benefit plans, with a special
focus on the plans of not-for-profit organizations and
governments.
She has significant experience in defined
contribution plan design and compliance as well as pension
product development. Throughout her career, Monica has
represented insurance companies on a wide range of insurance
regulatory issues. Her approach is to provide practical
solutions to plan sponsors and service providers in order to
help employers meet the objectives of their organization and the
needs of their employees.
Monica is Vice President of the Board of the Mile
High Rowing Club and served as a member of the Denver Metro
Chamber Leadership Foundation Finance Committee from 2007-2009.
She served as Secretary for the Board of the Public Education
and Business Coalition in Denver and chair of their Education
Committee from 2003-2011.
She is a frequent speaker on pension and tax
issues faced by small businesses and not-for-profit
organizations. She has given presentations on these topics to
many organizations including ALI-ABA, CUPA-HR and the OECD (in
Brasilia).
Monica received her undergraduate and law degree
from the State University of New York, and has a Masters Degree
in Taxation from New York University School of Law. As an
Adjunct Professor, she has taught courses on pension planning
and executive compensation arrangements. Monica is admitted to
practice law in New York and Colorado. She is a member of the
Colorado Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the
Association of Life Insurance Counsel.
Prior to becoming a founding partner of Giller & Calhoun, Monica
worked for the financial services company TIAA-CREF in various
legal capacities, including General Counsel, Product Management
and Senior Compliance Officer for Pension and Insurance
Products. In that role, she was responsible for all aspects of
the divisions business, including contracts, intellectual
property, privacy, corporate governance and general legal
matters.
Monica works out of both the Denver and New York offices.
